Your Future By Design

Aug 19, 2014

A dream written down with a date becomes a goal.
A goal broken down becomes a plan.
A plan backed by action makes your dream come true.

Most people are overwhelmed by the thought of organizing their dreams into goals and then translating these goals into plans. They choose instead to stick their heads in the sand, feeling that some how if they ignore their future, it will somehow miraculously work out in the end. Unfortunately, too often these people find themselves living a life that is controlled by other people’s agendas. However, when you have the right tools the process is a lot easier than you think.

Stephen Covey in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, identifies that the most significant thing an individual can do to ensure achievement of a dream is:

  1. Provide a detailed description of the dream.
  2. Attach a specific time frame to the dream to turn it into a goal.
  3. Determine the resources required to achieve the goal.

Until you complete these three tasks your brain does not take you seriously. It considers your thought process as simply a whimsical dream, a wish of “wouldn’t it be nice if.” These three simple actions engage the brain into action and begin the important process of:

  1. Taking ownership of your future
  2. Initiating imagination
  3. Creating consciousness

The combination of imagination and consciousness causes us to filter available information through different lenses. We start to reorganize our decision process. Options we previously did not see start to reveal themselves and begin to be seriously considered.

In his book, The Number, Lee Eisenberg completed an exhaustive study of the question: “How much is enough?” His important conclusion is: a lifestyle evaluated is always less expensive than a life unexplored.

At Designing My OK we have created a powerful tool, Futures By Design, to provide you with a safe secure environment for you to explore and experiment with your dreams.
To describe in detail:

  1. What you want to do,
  2. When you want to do it,
  3. How big you want to do it.

The software’s easy edit features are based upon the fundamental belief that being wrong is the simply the first step to discovering what is right.
Much like an architect you start by creating an initial rough draft… and with each successive draft version you gain confidence and clarity. A step by step guided process engages you to think about the second half of your life in orderly and bite size pieces.

The program accumulates all of these individual decisions allowing you to zoom out to make sure nothing is overlooked. At the same time you are able quickly identify and zoom in on the things that are most important to you.

Our goal at Designing My OK is to significantly improve your chances of enjoying the lifestyle you dream about.
